What Personality Traits Did You Pick Up From Your Parents?

The good, the bad, and the weird.

Has anyone noticed how the older you get, you find that you’re acting like your parents in more ways than is comfortable? Up to mannerisms!

Like there’s a hum I involuntarily do, and it always catches me off guard cause I’ve only heard it from my dad.

Or how, like my mum, I'm always moving my legs when I lie down(and my sister does it too!), and it has nothing to do with anxiety, our legs just seem to have a mind of their own!

It's an uneasy realisation, but more and more, I just keep finding little quirks of my parents in myself.

I'm usually mostly concerned about the bad ones because obviously, no one wants to carry their parent's shortcomings another generation forward, but nonetheless, there are also some perks I'm quite happy I picked up from them.

Here are some of mine (good and bad)...

I’m very meticulous. This is perhaps the most important thing I picked up from my dad, and I don’t even mean meticulous in a way that I’m fussy with details, more like, I’m very observant/careful in my dealings. Like when I tell my friends certain things can never be me, and they’re like, you never know, but I strongly feel like internally, I’m always curating my life in such a way that there are certain things that just can never be me. This goes hand in hand with being organised and it's one of my best life skills.

When it comes to inwardly seething, and giving the silent treatment, I have been very unfortunate to take this from my dad. (This might be a deranged thought but sometimes I think I’d like to engage in a silent treatment war with him and see who wins, seeing as I picked up this bad behaviour from him anyways.)

Self-sufficiency. I think I picked this one up from both my parents but more from my mum, and it goes hand in hand with being proactive (something my mum is amazing at) because I’d cry (very much like my mum) but best believe as long as it is within my capabilities, I’ll do something about it.

Stubbornness (and spite). I believe I picked up stubbornness from both my parents but spite from my dad, and I don't necessarily think stubbornness is a bad thing on its own, except mine comes as a result of spite, like in a way where you cut off your nose to spite your face.

Last but not least, staying away from things that don’t guarantee long life, like smoking and drinking etc. My parents are non-smokers/drinkers and thank God I picked that up from them instead of being the complete opposite.

Over to you! As you get older, what traits are you finding that you picked from your parents?

P.S.: Here's a little fun dark personality test I took to find out if I had a 'dark core'. I am about 10% lighter than the average person!
