Movie/TV Shows, Book, Song, Post, New discovery...
Ladies, Gentlemen and Others; Give it up for the last post of the year- My Top 5 from 2022. I did this in 2020 and I decided to do it again this year, and next, and next.
The five categories are, movie/tv shows, top book, song, blog post and new discovery.
MOVIE/TV SHOWS
When I'm with you, I feel so alive, and I feel so special. But that's because it's all possibility. We're not in a relationship.
This one is simple-ish because the only movie I knew from first watch that I’d rewatch constantly is Cha Cha Real Smooth. It was so heartfelt and quirky and sweet, and with flawed characters- the perfect recipe for a comfort watch.
In the spirit of top 5s, I’m going to go on the nose and list the top five TV shows I loved this year in order of most loved:
Scenes From a Marriage
Interview With The Vampire
Heartstopper
The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel
The Sex Life of College Girls
BOOK
And I knew the color of bliss then. And its color was red.
Books were such a miss this year evidenced by the fact that I had my most rereads this year. Anyways in the midst of all that, I read something that absolutely left me gobsmacked; Empire of the Vampire. Apparently, not many people loved it but then they have not been chanting BRING BACK VAMPIRES since 2018.
SONG
You drew up some good faith treaties, I drew curtains closed, drank my poison all alone. You said I have to trust more freely, but diesel is desire, you were playin' with fire
Apple says my top song this year was ‘This is me trying’ 172 plays but I raise that with The Great War. That has to be my favourite new song this year.
POST
I’m always holding on to forms when unhanded would be a replica mould of my fist. I traipse through the room like a ghost tied to the scene of my death, haunting everyone who trespasses, haunted myself by the restlessness that comes with the passage of time.
My favourite thing I posted this year on the blog is the 'The Last Man Standing' post. Writing it felt like reconnecting with a younger version of me I feared I'd outgrown. Read it here.
NEW DISCOVERY
My top new discovery this year is how much I thrive with community. Honestly, this should be a post on its own and once I find the words, I’d write it but I discovered this year how while I love to have my space, I also like to go out of my space to be around people (I’d explain better if I ever write a post specifically for this)
The short is, I love being around people on my own terms.
What were your top 5 for 2022?
