Out And About

Dearest reader, wait… wrong blog.

I fear I’ve been gone so long I’ve forgotten how to write my blog. But I’ve not been gone for nothing! Last year I took the internet’s advice and went out to touch grass, and I never went back inside, truly. I’m just starting to have my weekends to myself so here’s a little update.

As I mentioned I’ve been out and about, nothing major, just the usual warm weather outings, and what I’ve learnt from all of these, is that you can have the time of your life, doing absolutely nothing sensible, as long as you’re hanging out with someone you enjoy. But I did have a one-weekend outing in Montreal that I will in fact write about in the next blog.

Stay tuned for that.

Speaking of having the time of my life, in a bid to get things more exciting, I joined Hinge. So far it’s been drab. Disappointedly so. I’m used to meeting someone in their element and having a crush on them for 7 years and doing absolutely nothing about it, but having the time of my life whenever I’m graced with their presence. Can I get any more specific?

But after swiping through hundreds of fish in the sea, I cannot believe I’ve not met a fish I wanted to keep. Now, I’ve only been there for just more than a week BUT, I had more exciting expectations. Even with the people I’m talking with, I imagine the worst possible outcome, that they could be infamous for something and I won’t know this till I start dating the resident clown.

Is any of this going to deter me? Not yet.

In other news, Happy Bridgerton weekend to all who celebrate. If you couldn’t already tell, I just binge-watched the entire third season, and not to be a victim of recency bias, but this is the best season so far. I know there’s a lot of preference for Anthony and Kate, but I’m always going to be offended that he almost married Edwina knowing he loved Kate. No consideration for Edwina at all!

And Daphne and Simon, he chose to duel Anthony over marrying Daphne! He could have died, and he still chose that over marrying her. Outrageous. I could never recover from that.

But Colin and Penelope? As soon as he knew what he wanted, he got to work! I was giggling like a schoolgirl the entire season.

On to my other form of media consumption, I’ve been reading a lot this year. Check out my Goodreads for my 5-star recommendations, but I just finished Annie Bot and I found it a bit discomfiting.

For context, it follows the relationship between a man (Doug) and a sexbot who becomes more sentient over time. Doug custom-built this robot in the likeness of his ex-girlfriend, catering to his fantasy of a perfect girlfriend with no autonomy. But the more sentient the robot becomes, the more friction there is in the relationship, and the more Doug tries to maintain control over this thing he owns, becoming more emotionally and psychologically abusive.

Whilst it fell flat midway in, I’d say it was an intriguing read for the most part, so will recommend it.

All in all, this has been life lately. I am looking forward to being more active on the blog. Stay tuned for my next post!
