HAPPY TAYLOR SWIFT MONTH TO ALL WHO CELEBRATE.
I asked my boyfriend to park behind the mall so I could play August; cannot think of any other way to start the month.
Speaking of August and Taylor, I tried twice last month to get presale tickets for the Eras tour, in Vienna. The first time was an absolute failure. By the time I got out of the waiting line, everything was sold out. The second time, however, I did manage to get one ticket for about two hundred and something euros but I wanted two, and that would have been over five hundred euros and more in CAD so I gave up right there at checkout. In retrospect, not one of my proudest moments.
(P.S: I wrote this earlier this week and at the time I’m posting, guess who is coming to Canada!!??)
TWO FUN THINGS
BARBIE
I finally saw Barbie, and yes it was fun but you know what was even more fun? My friends and I dressing up to go see it. I believe the last time anyone had this much fun at the cinema was the Black Panther premiere.
A WEDDING
I attended a wedding at the end of the month, and I have one too many things to say about weddings.
First and most importantly, do not err on the side of getting friends or family to plan your wedding (unless based on experience, they’re actually good at planning events like weddings). There’s a reason wedding planners exist. Just because you’re a person of no – poor taste does not mean you must subject your guests to the same treatment.
Same as above. There’s a reason MCs exist. Just because your friend tells one or two jokes at the function does not mean they’re fit to be an MC.
Three; See number one. Your guests did not pause their day to celebrate with you. They incorporated you into their day so your weeding is not an excuse to be (un)fashionably late.
Four. Unrelated, but it had me thinking about what I’d like my wedding gown to look like.
FUN FACT: I went for a wedding gown fitting during the pandemic so I have a very rough idea of what I don’t want, which is any figure-hugging dress, but lately it crossed my mind that I’d also like a gown that I’d be able to wear in a not-so-wedding setting. Something timeless. I’d want it to be traditionally white, but I wouldn’t mind the shade of white. That leaves me with tea-length gowns and slip gowns.
And to be a hypocrite, I know I’m going to be so involved in my wedding planning, but that’s only because I do not trust other people’s tastes, even professionals, until proven otherwise.
Enough about weddings.
What fun thing have you heard about yourself?
Like, I recently heard from some acquaintances that they thought I was gay.
(Why?)
(Oh, I just did not think you liked guys)
I wonder what I look like from other people’s perspective.
I got in a conversation about core values with my friend, and I told her mine was honesty and reliability, and it got us to talking about how people view us and analysing each other’s personalities. And her analysis was that I like to make people think I have my life in order.
Which got me thinking of my uni floormate that said I looked like I had my life in order.
I guess I’m doing a good job.
I also heard I looked like I don’t compromise in my relationship (from a stranger).
I guess these ‘confessionals’?? are the closest we’d come to seeing ourselves from other people’s perspectives?
READING
Per usual, nothing has blown my mind, but in July I read three books.
-It’s not all downhill from here
-Emotional Agility
-Only a monster
I just finished, ‘On Earth, we’re briefly gorgeous’, and while it has the kind of writing I usually eat up, it simply did not move me in the way I think the writer intended it to, so it came off lacking instead.
WATCHING
I haven’t watched anything significant this month but I have a bunch of shows on my to-watch list that I haven’t gotten to yet.
– The Summer I turned pretty 2
– Red, white and royal blue
– Heartstopper 2
– The Witcher 3
WORD OF THE DAY
Kitsch
(pronounced kitch (like in kitchen)
Something that’s considered poor taste but in a knowing way.
Thank you for reading.
What is your ideal wedding dress? Have you seen the Barbie movie? And what will you say your core values are? Let me know!
