I Went Solo Picnicking and Here’s What You Need to Go for One.

It’s summer and if there’s one activity introverts and extroverts alike can agree on, it’s picnicking.

If you literally have nothing to do this summer, start with picnicking. I know because I am you and I woke up one morning and decided I was going to go picnicking.

Here’s the thing with picnics. You don’t need to spend any money whatsoever on it.

Venue: Your backyard, your front lawn, a park on your street, the beach, wherever there is a large expanse of grass.

Invites: You alone – infinity number of people.

Scenery: Picture perfect.

So, before you book the reservation for that restaurant, why not look around your house for these few things and enjoy a cashless day out.

Blankets

Unless your picnic spot has picnic tables, this is the one item on this list you should not forget. If you don’t have a picnic blanket, opt for small stray blankets around the house. Still nothing? Dollar stores sell small-sized blankets and even picnic mats for no more than $4.

Picnic Baskets

What is a picnic without a wicker basket? Luckily, I happened to have one of these lying around but there are alternatives to wicker baskets. Large lunch boxes, tote bags, backpacks. You can also find different sized baskets at the dollar store. Not the aesthetic ones you’d want but they do the job.

[IN THE HAMPER] Food

My decision to go on a picnic was spontaneous, so I put together food items I had available at the moment. Grapes, apples, biscuit, juice boxes, wine and a home-cooked meal. If you’re going solo, you don’t need that much, however, I’d recommend the wine, light snacks, fresh fruits and an easy meal if you think you might get hungry.

Entertainment

Download a movie, take a book, don’t forget your headphones. (I took my laptop with me to do some work). Take some games if you’re going with others (If you’re anything like me, take the games if you’re going alone too. You might meet people).

Plates, Spoons and Napkins

TIP: Make a list so you don’t forget anything. It’s so easy to forget these three right until the moment you need them.

Now that I’ve gotten picnicking out of the list, I’m back to not knowing what to do this summer and I’m very open to ideas. Let me know what summer activities you have planned!
